OUR MINISTRIES

Every Sunday morning at 9 AM we hold an inspiring and welcoming worship service.  Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday; healing services are held once a month.  We worship with a variety of traditional and contemporary sources.  Beautiful music and meaningful sermons are a part of each Sunday.

Prayer Chain

If you would like prayer for a concern for yourself or others, please contact our prayer chain by emailing or calling Carmen Beardsley, our prayer chain coordinator:  carmen.j.beardsley@gmail.com.  Your prayer request will be held in confidence and lifted up by the women and men on the prayer chain, as soon as they receive it.  If you would like to be a part of the prayer chain, please let Carrmen Beardsley know.

Women of the ELCA (W/ELCA)

Our group of friendly, lively women generally meet on the evening of the second Tuesday of the month, May through September, along with special events.  We do a Bible Study, share in conversation, and support mission projects like the Harbor Center in Two Harbors or the Phebe Solar Power Project in Africa. All women are invited to join us!

Children's Church

Children’s Church takes the place of traditional Sunday School within our congregation, meeting during a part of the worship service, so that children begin and end worship with their family, but also get a time of Christian Education.  A large and dedicated group of volunteer teachers provide fun and valuable instruction in the Bible. Memorial Garden

We are blessed with a beautiful Memorial Garden outside our church, which is maintained by our members and available any time for your viewing, sitting, or reflecting.  The story of Creation is told in Lake Superior stone mosaics, designed by artist Laura Stone.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES

Use your talents and abilities to benefit those around you. Here are just a few of the ways you can be of service

Creation Care Team

We have a group of members that are passionate about connecting faith to living in an environmentally responsible way.  This group is headed up by Lawrence Burkhard at present, and sponsors environmental education efforts, events, and Creation-themed worship services. Music

We love music and are blessed to have many very talented musicians!

  • Our choir Joyful (directed by Patti Stoddard) leads worship monthly and is always looking for members; we generally rehearse on Monday or Tuesday evenings. Our women's singers (Seraphim) and mens singers also bless us with music periodically.

  • We have a Bell Choir that has been playing for over 20 years, the Knife River Ringers, which also welcomes new members and rehearses on Mondays mid-afternoon.

  • Our newly formed Dulcimer group has many members and periodically leads worship services

  • Sticks & Strings has a variety of talented musicians that lead worship services monthly.

  • In addition, we have several other smaller groups with lots of wonderful talent that provide music, such as our gifted organist/pianist, Carol Carlson, and clarinet player, Lawrence Burkhard.

Outreach Ministries

Outreach is an extremely important part of the life of KRLC.  We believe strongly in helping other people who may be in need both locally and worldwide.  On a local level we support The Two Harbor’s Food Shelf, North Shore Horizons and the Lake Co. DAC.  Regionally we support Lutheran Social Services, CHUM, LSS Center for Changing Lives, Bethany Crisis Center and the Salvation Army.  We support our own ELCA NE Minnesota Synod.  Globally we support ELCA World Hunger, God’s Barnyard, Lutheran World Relief and Lutheran Disaster Response.  In 2023 we donated over $40,000 to these well deserving organizations and projects.

Council and Committees

We have a Christian Education Committee, a Worship Committee, an Endowment Fund Committee, a Property Committee, a Stewardship Committee, and a Church Council that meet as needed to help with the activities and oversight of the church.  We would be glad to have more people join these committees or serve on Council!  Our current Council President is Helene Hedlund.

Quilters

Our quilters blend together talented sewers with crafters and helpers to create beautiful quilts that are donated to local and international organizations in need. We meet fall, winter and spring on Wednesdays and typically make 20-40 quilts per year. Contact Sue Hubbard or Kay Struve if interested in joining us.
